Advanced Dental Care
In addition to our expansive range of general, restorative, and cosmetic dental treatments, our Brooklyn dentists offer a selection of advanced techniques. Dental phobia is a common concern that may affect a patient’s ability to seek out routine treatment, reconstructive care, or aesthetic procedures. Our dentists make sedation dentistry available to help anxious individuals remain calm and comfortable throughout their experience. Additionally, we can address TMJ (temporomandibular joint) disorder using state-of-the-art approaches, including therapeutic BOTOX® injections, dental appliances, and other innovative modalities. We also have options to address sleep apnea, a serious condition that is most commonly associated with snoring and dangerous breathing pauses during sleep.
We have provided additional information about our advanced dental treatments below. If you would like to learn more, or if you would like to schedule a consultation, please contact us today.
Sedation Dentistry
For some people, a trip to the dentist can be a very stressful time. Dental phobia and fear of pain are not uncommon in dental patients. For people who need help relaxing in the dentist’s chair, sedation dentistry is available from our practice. We offer:
- Oral sedation – Taken the night before or the day of the appointment, oral sedatives are designed to help a patient feel more at ease, but they do not provide pain relief, which will be administered separately if necessary for treatment.
- Nitrous oxide – Also called “laughing gas,” nitrous oxide is inhaled through a mask to help patients relax, while a local anesthetic is used to eliminate pain.
North Brooklyn Dental Care strives to make your visit as comfortable as possible so you can enjoy the benefits of regular dentist visits and a clean bill of oral health.
TMJ Disorder
Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorder is a serious yet common condition. Dysfunction in the jaw joint can cause a wide range of problems, from jaw clenching and teeth grinding to migraines and neck pain. We offer state-of-the-art solutions for TMD regardless of the severity of your concern.
Sleep Apnea
Sleep apnea is a condition where the patient experiences repeated pauses in their breathing throughout the night. The interruptions typically last a few seconds or longer (sometimes up to a minute), and they can happen dozens or even hundreds of times in a night. Most individuals are unaware this is happening, but sleep apnea can have very serious consequences. In addition to reduced quality of sleep and fatigue, people with sleep apnea are at a higher risk of stroke, heart disease, cardiac arrest, and even sudden cardiac death. One of the most common signs of sleep apnea is snoring, and you should be evaluated for this disorder if you snore. Dr. Stimmler and our team offer state-of-the-art techniques to address sleep apnea, including oral appliances that help maintain an open airway while you sleep.
Therapeutic BOTOX® Injections
Many people think of BOTOX® injections as a treatment for wrinkles, but this neuromodulator is also FDA-approved to alleviate a wide range of medical and dental conditions, including teeth grinding, headaches and migraines, and TMJ disorder. While there may be some secondary aesthetic effects when using BOTOX® Cosmetic for oral health enhancement, our primary purpose is therapeutic.
